Coming Soon: Lenox Cupcakes at 5392 Peachtree Rd

It’s hard to believe that we finally have a place to call our baking home. After our temporary lease at Phipps Plaza ended, we were pretty sure where we would be going next. In fact, we’d planned on that location long before our final days at Phipps. We had our design in place and were ready to move forward when we found out that the restaurant next door didn’t want a cupcake shop in the same plaza. Womp womp. We found a couple more spots we thought would be ideal but the deals somehow fell through right before we signed the lease. Finally, it dawned on us that these seemingly perfect spaces, may not be ideal for us. We thought about our needs as a family and what we needed in terms of work/life balance and a space we initially didn’t think was a fit suddenly started to make sense.

Our new space at 5392 Peachtree Rd would be our main baking facility where we would bake cupcakes for delivery and pick up. It’s just perfect for that. When we were at Phipps, we found ourselves baking more for pick up and delivery than we did for walk-ins. We often thought it would be great if Saturdays were reserved just for walk-ins. That scenario might just be possible at our new location. We’re really excited about the opportunity to serve our customers and still spend quality time together as a family. It’s exciting, scary and exciting all over again.

In our earlier days as a delivery-only company, I remember being frustrated about not having a place for people to come and pick up their cupcakes. And then when we had the temporary store, I remember longing for the days when I could volunteer at my son’s school or go on our annual vacay. I’m hoping this time around, I’ll actually be able to volunteer more often without cancelling at the last minute and even though we probably won’t be able to take the last two weeks of the year off as we did in times past, I know for sure we won’t be open on New Year’s Day :-)

So long Phipps Plaza...

It is amazing to think that it was a little over a year ago that we began working on plans for our pop-up store at Phipps Plaza. It has now been a year and we are thankful to have been able to test our concept in a retail environment. We met some wonderful people and it was gratifying to witness customers enjoying our cupcakes firsthand. We will no doubt miss all our customers, especially those who drove a great distance to see us.

We are truly excited, energized, and ready for the next phase of our business venture. For now, our cupcakes are available by delivery, throughout the metro-Atlanta area, while we are working on a more permanent space. Lenox Cupcakes Getting a Storefront?

Yes, we are!!! We are pleased to announce that Lenox Cupcakes will be opening our first storefront before the end of the summer. Our new location is at Phipps Plaza, next to Belk on the second level. This is really huge for us and we are excited to share this great news with you. More details to come!

Bootstrap, yes... Bootleg, no

I'll explain the crazy title in a minute. Someone told our kindly driver that we were bootleg for not having a storefront and I thought this might be a good time to explain our business model. You see, we don't operate a storefront for a variety of reasons with the main reason being the cost of operating a brick and mortar. Keeping our operating costs low gives us room to play with the same high-end ingredients that designer cupcake stores use (Valrhona chocolate, Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, real chocolate sprinkles and chocolate flakes from France, European stlye butter, pure extracts and spices, organic produce, etc).

Still, I understand that our delivery-only model is not ideal for everyone so I'll continue to look for other ways to get our cupcakes out there. I must say that we have experimented with markets, neighborhood coffee shops and those haven't worked as well as we would have liked. Speaking of which, I went to make a delivery to Tilt, where we had our cupcakes and was greeted with a sign saying that they had closed :(

Lenox Cupcakes Now at Tilt Coffee Shop

Starting today, our cupcakes will be at Tilt Coffee Shop. I'm so excited to tell everyone about this. One of the questions I get A LOT is "where are you located?" I can't tell you how sad it makes me to turn away folks that want to try our cupcakes. Now, we can finally tell anyone looking for a place to go and enjoy our cupcakes that we are at Tilt!

New Summer Flavor

Hi Everyone!

Hope you had a great weekend! I was at the farmer's market this weekend and snagged the most BEAUTIful key limes. I was actually buying mangoes from this one guy and spotted the key limes. Anyhow, they are devine and I'm thrilled to be able to bring back "Tropical Lime". This flavor had disappeared from our menu because of the lack of decent supply in these parts. I was told by the farmer that sold them to me that they should be here through the end of August. Hurray for key limes! Our Tropical Lime cupcake is infused through and through with freshly squeezed juice and aromatic zest from these terrific key limes. The topping is a lime-tinged cream cheese frosting. Try one today!

Open July 4th

Hi Everyone! We've been getting a lot of questions about our July 4th hours and I'm happy to let you know we will be operating during our normal business hours from 9am to 6pm. Our cupcakes will be decked out in red and blue stars for the holiday so place your order today!

Custom Cupcakes

We are getting more and more requests to customize our cupcakes and most times, we don't mind veering off from our regular path. Opening up to requests for themed cupcakes has turned out to be as much fun for us as they are for our customers.

That being said, we have had to turn down some projects that involved certain body parts. Anyone seen the episode of Cake Boss where Buddy's mom put her foot down on a certain project? That's exactly what I mean. As much as we'd like to take on fun projects, I'm not sure we're there yet. Have a Super Monday!

Q & A: Sugar-free cupcakes

We recently received an email asking about our sugar-free cupcakes. How do we do it? We don't exactly advertise our sugar-free cupcakes so I'm glad we got this question. For people looking for healthier options, we tell them about our Sweet Elise collection which is more organic, refined sugar free, and 100% sweet, as we like to say. However, for people who want to avoid sugar, we use either Splenda or agave nectar, depending on the customer's preference.

Custom Cupcakes for University of Georgia Couple

A few months ago, we had the pleasure of creating 300 custom Georgia “G” cupcakes for the wedding celebration of Rosemary and Joel. The couple are huge Georgia fans and wanted their cupcakes to reflect this. It was a personal pleasure to be part of that project because I’m a huge Georgia fan myself. We made 100 each of Red Velvet, Chocolate Whisper, and Vanilla-Vanilla for the event. All the cupcakes were topped with hand-cut fondant Georgia “G” lettering in either red or black. We’ve finally been able to get a hold of a couple of pictures from their event which took place at the UGA stadium (Georgia fans know Sanford Stadium oh so well). I wasn’t there to see the set up myself so I’m glad that their event coordinator Jenn Thomas (of Jennnifer Thomas Designs) was kind enough to send the pictures my way. The lovely photos were taken by Jeremy Harwell, a photographer in Athens. Enjoy!

New Things!

So, my last post was about New Happenings. This post is about new things. I can hardly contain my excitement about our new personalized ribbons. We've been using them for two or three weeks and I just LOVE them. We include them (for FREE, fingers crossed) as part of our gift packaging.

New Happenings

Hi Everyone!

It’s been a long, dry (blogging) spell and thought I should let you guys in on some of the things we’re working on. First of all, let me say how thrilled I am to have a terrific new kitchen rental agreement. We’ve settled quite nicely into our new digs and are thrilled to be doing business with such amazing ladies. Emphasis on amazing. This kitchen is equipped to the nines with state-of-the-art equipment that we’re almost afraid to touch. Almost!

More recently, we’ve been approached about a possible retail outlet for Lenox Cupcakes. Now, being the organic business-building people that we are, we want to partner with another business to provide an awesome experience for our customers. As always, our customers come first so we are looking to partner with a business that’s all about providing exceptional service to their customers as well. That’s a biggie. If you know of any businesses looking for a storefront in the Buckhead area, please tell them about us. We’ll thank you in cupcakes. That’s all for now. Enjoy the rest of your week. Cupcakes really make people happy

This past weekend, we took some cupcakes to the folks at a senior assited living facility in my old neighborhood. The idea of course came from my brilliant sister and I have no idea why I never thought about that. I’ve only driven past them like oh, a zillion million times before. Anyway, I asked if they would like to have some cupcakes and they said, “Bring it on!” Two hundred cupcakes later, and with huge grins from the residents, we walked away feeling great. I have a feeling I'll be back to visit before long.

Wednesday's Flavors

Today, we baked five or six flavors for our customers. They were:

• Pumpkin Spice
• Honey Vanilla
• Dark Chocolate Bliss
• Vanilla/Chocolate
• Chocolate Dream
• Chocolate Whisper

Quite a bit of flavors, wouldn't you say? Either that or my math is off - now that I count that list, we baked eight different flavors. Today is Earth Day and Administrative Professionals' Day so we had to churn quite a few cupcakes by 9:00am for our corporate clients. If you're thinking of ordering cupcakes for delivery or pick-up in Atlanta, we are your people.
